"HAT TEA"  and MIDNIGHT MUSICAL
to TOP GMWA WOMEN'S SCHEDULE

Dorothy Norwood, one of the famed "Golden Girls of Gospel," will be the featured honoree at the Women's Council's "A Hatter's Affair" tea during the Gospel Music Workshop of America's 39th annual convention in Dallas August 12-18.

The tea, set for 3 p.m. Thursday, August 17 in the Reunion Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel is a scholarship fundraiser.  Major sponsors for the event are the National Black United Fund and GVC Winstar Communications Systems.  Special guests include Dottie Peoples, Vickie Winans and the legendary Caravans, the group with whom Norwood began her recording career more than 50 years ago.

"We're doing something very special this year to recognize the many facets of women's lives," said Carolyn Bell, Women's Council co-chair.  "Our scholarships this year will go to a nontraditional student - an older woman or a single parent - returning to college to enhance her career options and better provide for her family.  GMWA has always been a pioneer in the area of women's equality and our focus this year is just another part of that tradition."

The Women of Worship, GMWA's renowned women's choir, will present its annual Midnight Musical on Wednesday night, August 16, in the Hyatt Regency's Dallas Ballroom.  Guest vocalists Ami Rushes, Liz McCoombs and Angie Spivey also are slated to appear.

The Women's Council has selected pastel pink with chocolate brown as the auxiliary colors for the musical.  All guests are encouraged to don their favorite headgear for Thursday's tea.
